Internet usage is soaring. It’s estimated that the average U.S. resident spends almost seven hours online each day. That breaks down to just over three months of the year is spent researching, shopping, chatting, reading, or watching videos online.
If your family is spending more and more time glued to a computer or mobile device, it’s a good time to break that habit. Purchase these family-friendly games and spend time with your parents playing a game that all generations enjoy.
Apples to Apples
Apples to Apples has been around for several years. It’s a great game for a group and is suitable for younger players. Everyone gets some Red Apple cards with a phrase or word on them.
The person who is the round’s judge lays down a Green Apple Card that has an adjective. Players go through their Red Apple cards to find the funniest match to the Green Apple card.
For example, if the judge played a Green Apple card with the word “Sharp,” players might choose Red Apple cards like “Pyramids,” “Pencils,” or “Einstein.” The judge decides who has the best answer and awards that player the points.
A phrase with a missing word is given. Read the phrase card and fill in the blank by writing it down on a card that you keep hidden. The rest of the players do the same. You want someone to match what you wrote.
The bigger the group, the more fun this game is. You get a point for each person that matches your answer. Play until someone fills the point card first.
Cover Your Assets
Grandpa Beck and his wife came up with this card game that’s all about having the most wealth. Collect matching assets and build your fortune. Each set of assets is built over your prior set of assets. Other players can steal those top sets of assets if they have a matching card. You have to be shrewd about protecting the assets you have and trying to steal them back of they are taken from you.
Put on a headband and insert your card face out on your forehead. Other players see the word you’ve chosen, but you don’t have a clue. You have one minute to ask yes or no questions and try to figure out what the word on your forehead is.
If you’re right, you get to return one of your chips. If you don’t get it, you have to take a chip. The goal is to be the first to get rid of all of your chips.
You can’t always be with your parents. Even as a family caregiver, you need time to socialize, run errands, and get work done. Home care services help. You spend time on the things you want or need to do. Caregivers come to your parents’ home and help them. Call a home care agency to make arrangements.
